天水訟（てんすいしょう）の卦は、争いへの対処を説明しています。
争いには大小いろいろあり、個人と個人、民族と民族、国と国が争う場合もあり、また上のものと下のものとの争い、上のもの同士の争い、下のもの同士の争い、あるいは自分自身の心の中に二つのものが対立して争うことなどもあります。それらをいかに処置すべきかを説いています。
争いがあるとき、するべきことは：
- 争いがあるときに、心の中に真実なる徳が充実していて、それが争いによって塞がれていることをよく忍耐し、深く自ら戒め自ら懼れ、そして中庸の道を得ているときは吉。
- 争いのあるときは、中正な徳をそなえた偉大な人にお目にかかって裁判してもらう。
争いがあるときにすべきでないことは：
- 最後まで人と争うときは凶。争いはなしとげてはならないもので、適当な時期に中止すべき。
- 争っている最中に困難を越えて大事業を成し遂げようとすべきでなく、強いて断行すれば深い淵の中に陥る。

- In times of conflict, seek the counsel of a great person with virtuous qualities, someone who follows the middle path, to help resolve the situation.
What should not be done during a dispute?
- It is unfavorable to persist in a conflict until it is resolved at all costs. A dispute should not be dragged on indefinitely; instead, it should be brought to a close at the right time.
- Do not attempt to push through difficulties during a conflict while aiming to achieve great accomplishments. If you try to force things, you may find yourself falling into a deep abyss.
彖（たん）の辞
訟有孚。塞。惕中吉。終凶。利見大人。不利渉大川。
訟（しょう）は孚（まこと）ありて、塞（ふさ）がり、惕（おそ）れて中（ちゅう）すれば吉。終（お）うれば凶（きょう）。大人（たいじん）を見るに利（よろ）し。大川（たいせん）を渉（わた）るに利（よろ）しからず。

- 前の水天需の卦において、需とは飲食物など、人間が需要するもの。需要するものがあるときは皆がそれを得ようとして争う。飲食物以外にも、利権権力、名誉、欲望のために争うので、訴訟が起きる。
